Garden Talk Thursday Oct. 20th

By Dan Gallagher

  OCTOBER 18, 2022 --

Couple of announcements, a few heads up and one or two of what was that. First up is an announcement and a heads up. The Strong Family Farm is having their 8th Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday October 22nd from 10 am until 4 pm. They will have a lot going on that day, so much to see down on the farm. The Yellow Barn Tour is worth the trip alone.

Hillstown Grange is holding a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 5, 2022.  Doors open at 8:30 AM until 11:00 AM.
Breakfast consists of Pancakes including sausage, coffee, tea and juice, all for just $5, $3 for kids under 14.  This month
we are actually going to have 2 Specials, one will be a lemon pancake with blueberry topping and the second is reminisce of Thanksgiving, it will be a sweet potato casserole pancake...yum!! And as always plain and chocolate chip pancakes will be available!

Our upstairs hall now has a library which has opened with a special area for reading, playing games, puzzles, or just visiting with old friends.  Books are available for a donation to our building fund. We accept gently used books, board games and puzzles. A Gramma’s Attic will be open upstairs this month. Hillstown Grange is located at 617 Hills Street, East Hartford, CT.

I gave a presentation on Raised Bed Gardening at the Manchester Garden Club and had a blast. I had a chance to meet a great group of gardeners that were so welcoming, kind and generous from Ann Martell, my contact to Allison Waxman, their president to every member that attended. I will try and remember when they have their meetings to mention them in my emails. They had I believe over 60 members in attendance, some were from the Perennial Planting Group. I was the only one in the Biennials and the rest were Annuals. Not really but it sounds funny and we need more smiles and courtesy, like Covid they are both highly contagious.

I haven't got any interesting webinars to share but I did get an email that had a rather large group of on-demand webinars that covered a plethora of topics. Maybe this being fall and the end of harvest time perhaps I should of said cornucopia. I will try and find that link and send it out in the next email. As always any questions or comments feel free, I am.

Be the uncloudy day,
Bring the sunshine.
Dan
