HG Garden Talk Thursday Nov. 17th

By Dan Gallagher

  NOVEMBER 2022 --

Good Day HG Gardeners,

Last Garden Talk for 2022 and it is going to be very informal as I think my deep dives so I could fully understand the how, the why and the when of taking better care of the soil might have gone way beyond what most want or need to know, I am done for awhile. I tied up many loose ends and I am hoping I can put it all down in a short, compact but comprehensive guide, soon. I would like to talk about Carbon Credits and get other people's feelings, experience, or knowledge on the topic. I will post a link later in this email to a blog, Soil Matters. If you have any questions or topics you would like to discuss, bring them to the Zoom Meeting. I really would like to know what everybody learned this year. I will be honest there are some things about gardening I learned that are not as true as when I first learned them. So gardening is not only a life long educational experience, it has what seems to be some relearning to it. Sorry, many things will only work sometimes in some places and not in others. Keep and write down the things that work for you.

So this Thursday at 7:00 pm. until about 8:30 pm we will the Garden Talk via Zoom.

***Here is the link to the blog on What is a Soil Carbon Credit at Soil Matters, Get The Scoop. I would like to have as many as possible to discuss because I am missing something. It seems far to complicated and takes too much trust to work, plus money is involved.*

I have been sitting in on a few webinars and have had some of my questions answered on a few of them which is why I attend live webinars. I do believe because it seems everybody is running out of money, the free webinar may go the way of the dinosaur. I will try and share a couple of things I learned and went ah ha, Thursday.

A final note, John Murphy. Yes, that John Murphy of Murphy's Laws of Gardening will be doing a Workshop/Presentation on Pollinator Pathways in either Jan. or Feb. We will be ironing out the details later this week and will be getting back to you with the details. Can you feel the Buzz!!

One more final note. We are in discussion with Frank and Deidre of Bakery on Main whose company has created the Growing Roots Community Garden in East Hartford, that serves the Senior Center, the town Pantry and intown soup kitchens, hopefully in cooperation we can help to up production and feed more people in town. So eventually, I am hoping that some of you might volunteer a day or two in 2023 on specific dates to help to ensure a bountiful harvest. Again as I know more you will be the first to know. I am hoping several of the Hillstown Grange Gardeners will take note and be part of this community outreach project. I am hoping to utilize the community garden into many hands on demonstrations will still getting done what needs to get done. On the farm we called it a twofer.

Enjoy the day,
Dan
